Sun Temple of Konark was Built in the 12th century and is located near Konark, around 35 Km from Puri. King Narasimhadeva is associated with the construction of the temple. Surya, the Hindu Sun God, is honored at this temple. The name Konark comes from the Sanskrit words Kona (corner or angle) and Arka (angle) (the sun). This artwork is displayed on a huge scale in the Konark temple. It contains 24 intricately carved stone wheels with a diameter of over 12 feet, which are pushed by a team of seven horses. All of the conventional aspects of a Hindu temple are included in the temple design, which is laid out in a square format. The temple is built in the traditional Kalinga architectural style.
